Outdoor recreation, shopping, history and more can also be found in this southern Ohio county

Ready to get out of the house? There’s plenty to do in Adams County in southern Ohio. While the county is packed with things to do, we’ve named 10 of the best for those looking for a quick getaway.
1. Visit the Amish shops.
Keim Family Market is east of Seaman and Miller’s Bakery & Furniture is on Wheat Ridge Road. Both are open every day except Sunday.
2. Take a hike.
Buzzardroost Rock Trail or Cedar Falls Trail at the EOA Preserve are both trails with spectacular views. Or you can hike the Ohio River hills at the new Rock Run Preserve just east of Sinking Springs.
3. Dip a paddle.
There are four public canoe launches on Ohio Brush Creek. You can also rent a canoe or kayak at MoonDoggie LIVERee on Brush Creek Road.
4. Visit Serpent Mound.
Check out the 1,348-foot-long serpent effigy and ponder its mysteries. Or perhaps the museum will satisfy your curiosity. Open six days a week north of Peebles on state Route 73.
5. Boat, fish & ski the Ohio River.
Boaters come from as far away as Cincinnati, Portsmouth and all points in between during the summer to play on the beach at Manchester Island.
6. Grab lunch from a unique location.
Try BK Scoop on Panhandle Ave. in West Union for hot dogs fixed over 40 different ways. At Blake Pharmacy on the courthouse square in West Union, a Coke is still a nickel. The Greene Beanery in Peebles for great coffee and soup. And Cruiser’s Diner in Seaman is the home of the giant Hubcap Burger.
7. Visit a zoo.
Kids love Family Traditions Animal Adventures, located just off Wheat Ridge Road in Adams County Amish Country.
8. Peruse antiques.
Visit Grindstone Farm at 817 Tater Ridge Road in West Union, home of the Old Thyme Wheat Ridge Herb Fair. Before and after the fair visit the farm to view barns full of one-of-kind antiques.
9. Get lost in a corn maze.
Come September, the corn mazes open at Erwin Farms near Cherry Fork and at Forgotten Way Farm near Winchester. They’re plenty of fun for the family and be sure to check out the Farmers Wife Garden Barn open year-round at Erwin Farms.
10. Follow the Quilt Trail.
The first quilt trail was established in 2001 right here in Adams County.
