3 Holiday Escapes in Columbus

Columbus Zoo’s Wildlights

Find some holiday cheer at one of these seasonal events

By Corinne Minard

While most of us this holiday season will be sticking close to home, there are many seasonal events we can find in nearby Columbus. Here are three that you and your family can still enjoy.

At the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium, visitors can see animals and view the annual Wildlights event. During the holidays, the 580-acre zoo is covered in more than 300 million LED lights. Visitors must purchase a timed entry ticket, wear a mask and socially distance from other groups. And while the kids won’t be able to sit on Santa’s lap as they normally would, they can still interact with St. Nick at the Up on the Rooftop experience.

Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens will be filled with light all month long during Conservancy Aglow. The conservancy will be covered in thousands of lights, but new this year is a Candyland scene with a life-size gingerbread house and a magical train display. Visitors must purchase tickets in advance.

A free, self-guided holiday event can be found at Columbus Commons. During the holidays, the park is lit up with more than 400,000 LED lights. Visitors can explore the 6-acre park on their own, and then order take out or dine in at one of the many restaurants located close by.
